Vanway's food project will offer the opportunity for students, staff and the greater community to learn about gardening and to connect with nature.

Plants growing in 13 raised beds include radishes, kale, corn, beans, pumpkins, chives, strawberries, bunching onions, peas, potatoes, beets, lettuce, cilantro, basil, parsley, carrots and sunflowers.

"We knew we had an opportunity to give our students something special," said Jeremy Pahl, aboriginal education worker at Vanway. "Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds and Prince George Toyota generously helped give our students the opportunity to get their hands dirty and learn from nature on our school grounds."

The project will increase enthusiasm for learning, raise environmental awareness and instill stewardship in students who might not otherwise get the opportunity, added Pahl.
