Prince George RCMP are asking anyone who may have purchased gravel directly from a quarry on Highway 16 East in the last seven years to contact the detachment and help police with an investigation.

It's suspected someone pretending to own the material may have sold it at the site.

"Purchasers are not considered suspects, but may have key information that could further this investigation," RCMP said.

In November, the quarry's owner, Burnco, discovered about 6,500 tonnes, worth about $250,000 after noticing the gate had been breached.

The site is located about 75 kilometres east of Prince George and 6.5 kilometres east of the turnoff onto the Bowron Forest Service Road in the vicinity of Hungary Creek.

"This is a substantial loss to the owner of this quarry" Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said. "It is unfortunate that there are persons in our community that believe they have the right to take whatever they want, with no consequences. We want to ensure there are consequences for this theft."

The detachment can be reached at 250-562-3300.
