RCMP deploy ropes and a winch to rescue the victims after a stage coach going to the Williams Lake Stampeded rolled off the road Tuesday.

A horse-drawn stage coach carrying seven people to the Williams Lake Stampede went off the road and plunged 40 feet down a ravine on Tuesday.

Four of the people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while two others were able to walk up the slope. However, one other person was in serious condition and one of the horses had to be put down.

Police used ropes and a winch to bring the occupants back up onto the road after ambulance attendants stabilized the injured and put them on stretchers.

"A recent large mud slide in the area also compounded the demanding nature of the rescue," North Distrct RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said.

The mishap occurred near Farwell Canyon, west of Williams Lake.
