Roy Spooner is the Prince George Community Foundation's 2014 Citizen of the Year.

The PGCF outlined a long list of contributions Spooner has made in announcing him as the winner.

Organizations he has been involved in include Rotary, the Royal Canadian Legion, Barkerville Heritage Trust Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Aboriginal Business Development Centre, Prince George Symphony Orchestra, Prince George Public Library, Spirit of the North Health Care Foundation and the Community Arts Council.

"Roy is known as 'the ideas guy,' always looking for ways for an organization to be better with no expectation of something in return," the foundation said in the announcement.

"Roy not only steps forward when there is a need; he jumps in with both feet. He is a visionary and is part of the intricate quilt that builds a future for the north. This is his legacy."

The other nominees this year were Penny Jones, Andrew Burton and Norma Allison.
