The SPCA is asking for donations to pay for surgery on Koda's cruciated ligament.

Prince George SPCA has issued a call for help to cover the cost of surgery for a two-year-old Labrador retriever.

Koda has torn a cruciated ligament and while the veterinarian has given the SPCA a break on the price, the agency still needs to raise $2,360. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign has reached $400 according to the SPCA's online fundraising portal.

"Our budget is very limited and we like to help out every animal we can," said the shelter's manager Jaymie Walsh. "So the public can just really help and take that stress off our shelter so we can help more animals."

Koda came in as a surrender because of the expense of the injury. How the injury occurred no one knows.

"It could be a 'hit-by-a-car'," Walsh said. "The dog is extremely high energy and it could be as much as turning the wrong way when he's running full bore."

Koda is booked for surgery and is in a foster home because the shelter is very stressful for him. The post-surgery recovery will take about two months and Koda will be limited to short walks on a leash, Walsh said.

To make a donation, got to spca.bc.ca/medicalemergency or visit the shelter at 4011 Lansdowne Rd.
