Environment Canada's snowfall warning for the Bulkley Valley remains in effect.

In a notice issued shortly before noon, the agency said some locations have received 10 cm of snow already and a further accumulation of 5-10 cm is expected today.

The highest amounts should be near and south of Burns Lake. For Highway 16 from Smithers to Terrace, generally light accumulations are expected except near Smithers where an additional five cm is anticipated.

The snowfall will slowly taper off tonight. Another five cm of accumulation is forecast south of Burns Lake tonight.

The event is due to a clash of an Arctic cold front from the north with a Pacific warm front from the south, according to Environment Canada.

The alert was first issued early Wednesday morning.
