The winter's first proper snowfall put the city's new snow clearing plan into motion Monday.

According to information from the city, crews sanded and salted problem hills and major arterial routes before plowing Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes in the Hart Monday night. Work continued on Tuesday with snow clearing in the green garbage collection zone along with sanding and salting operations elsewhere throughout the city.

This year, the city is also ramping up its parking restrictions. In addition to a pre-existing ban on parking on residential streets between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., there are also new roads where overnight parking is prohibited between Oct. 15 and April 15. These include the city's first priority snow-clearing areas - main arterial roads, the hospital district and priority hills - as well as in the downtown core.

Violators will be ticketed.
