After shutting its doors in early September for an "operational reorganization" to make the switch back to a Habitat for Humanity ReStore, the former Hearts and Hands for Homes Society's Salvage Store remains closed.

Habitat for Humanity Canada assumed management of the Queensway store on Sept. 3 with the intent of reopening on Sept. 25 under the national organization's banner.

"Following the liquidation sale that took place Sept. 25/26, the store is now temporarily closed," said a Habitat spokesperson in an email.

Proceeds from that sale were intended to stay within the community for Habitat work, but there isn't a new date scheduled for the store to reopen. Hearts and Hands for Homes Society is the former Prince George branch of Habitat Canada. It was disaffiliated from the national organization in 2013 and a July B.C. Supreme Court decision ordered Hearts and Hands to hand its assets over to the national body. Hearts and Hands has appealed the court decision.

The assets include several properties as well as the store specializing in secondhand furniture and building materials.
