Prince George RCMP will be reviving its warrant apprehension unit this winter.

"From now until about the time the snow disappears, four officers will be tasked to hunt down as many of the 324 persons currently wanted by the Prince George RCMP as possible," Cpl. Craig Douglass said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Of that total, 53 are women and roughly 130 are believed to be out of province with a portion even out of country, in such places as the United States, United Kingdom and Switzerland.

And although most warrants were issued relatively recently, some date as far back as 1980, and the alleged offences range from petty to serious, including sexual assault, fraud, drunk driving and assault.

Over three months at the start of this year, the unit tracked down and arrested 50 people for whom arrest warrants had been issued. A further 29 other people were arrested in the process, generating 50 more charges, while almost three ounces of cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin were seized, Douglass said.

Anyone with information about these people is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 25-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES using keyword "pgtips".
