The Prince George RCMP showed off their musical side Friday, with the release of a song promoting safe winter driving.

The local detachment jumped into the social media #PoliceRapBattle fray, started by the RCMP in Kindersley, Sask., earlier this week. The force – which parodied Ice, Ice Baby – challenged other police departments across the country to put together their own reworked rap song for the slippery season.

Responses came in from police Facebook pages including EdmontonMedicine Hat,Vancouver, West Vancouver, Calgary and the Millet, Alta., fire department.

"The concept is awesome," said Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass, who, along with special constable Davy Greenlees, is featured on the RUN RCMP track It's Tricky, written and produced by local radio personality Kyle Sampson.

"Kudos to Kyle Sampson," said Douglass, calling him the motivation to actually lay the track down. P.G. went a step further with their entry into the rap battle, not just posting lyrics to social media, but actually recording the song and releasing a video (see below).

Douglass said he doesn't know if the local force has the musical chops to produce a second single, but that they enjoy finding new ways of communicating to the community.
