The Prince George RCMP's traffic services section will be holding an event Thursday to raise awareness about pedestrian safety.

It will be held at the corner of Kerry Street and Davie Avenue - near the AiMHi offices in the Lakewood neighbourhood - starting at 10 a.m.

"This event will be open to the public and will demonstrate the devastating effects of fatal motor vehicle collisions involving pedestrians," RCMP said in a statement.

During the event, RCMP will also unveil a campaign targeting both drivers and pedestrians.

Five people lost their lives in vehicle collisions while either walking or running on Prince George roads last year.

"In a community that normally sees very few pedestrian fatal collisions; the prevention of these unnecessary deaths has become a priority for the Prince George RCMP," RCMP said.
