Police set up 157 roadblocks and checked 24,000 vehicles across the province during a CounterAttack blitz against drivers impaired by drugs and alcohol on Friday night, the B.C. RCMP said.

The effort nabbed 116 impaired drivers.

"B.C. has some of the toughest impaired driving laws in Canada and police are dedicated to enforcing these laws; not only during December, but all year long and we need our communities to support our efforts," said B.C. RCMP Supt. Derek Cooke.

"When you plan your festivities, plan your safe ride home too.

"Friends, colleagues and loved ones need to hold each other accountable and we encourage road users to call 911 when they suspect an impaired driver."

For a free and safe ride home in Prince George, check out Operation Red Nose or call 1-877-604-NOSE (6673)

Drivers are also reminded to slow down and move over when they see flashing red, blue or yellow lights from emergency vehicles.
