Bill C-211 is one step closer to offering first responders, veterans and military personnel affected by post-traumatic stress disorder consistent care across the country as it was passed at third reading in the House of Commons Friday.

The bill will now be referred to the Senate for consideration.

Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty worked to get Bill C-211, an act that creates a federal framework on PTSD that would include long-term solutions for those with PTSD including best practices, statistical data and consistent terminology and education.

"Currently, there is no coordinated federal-provincial strategy that would expand the scope of support to ensure long-term solutions for those suffering from PTSD," Doherty said.

"I want to thank all of those who have followed us on this journey, to get to where we are today.

"While there is still much work to be done, this is a step in the right direction to ensuring our first responders, veteran and military personnel get the care and attention they need to deal with PTSD."
