The driver of a blue Hyundai that collided with a black Jeep on Second Avenue near Brunswick Street is being investigated for drunk driving while police are also looking into whether the employee of a local security firm overstepped his authority by pursuing the vehicle.
Exactly what sparked the matter, police were not yet sure, Cpl. Craig Douglass said, but RCMP received a call from the security company at 11:34 a.m. to report an erratic driver downtown.
Whether the driver of the security company's vehicle, a 52-year-old Prince George resident, spooked the driver of the Hyundai, a 30-year-old Prince George man who also hit a parked car before turning onto Second, is one of the questions RCMP will have to answer.
"That's all part of the investigation," Douglass said. "We can't conclusively say any of that yet but certainly speed, driving behaviour are going to be factors on both sides and certainly impaired driving on the Hyundai side."
He advised anyone who comes across an erratic driver to limit themselves to simply getting a description of the vehicle and the licence plate number and, after calling RCMP, leaving the rest up to police who often call off a pursuit of their own if they think it is putting others at risk.
"Even keeping an eye on a vehicle is sometimes chasing and therefore you have to let it go," Douglass said.
No one was injured although the occupant of the parked car was taken to hospital as a precaution.
