Poitras hit with more charges after Halloween night arrest

The man wanted in connection with the alleged theft of two pickup trucks over the weekend is facing additional charges as a result of his arrest on Halloween night.

The man wanted in connection with the alleged theft of two pickup trucks over the weekend is facing additional charges as a result of his arrest on Halloween night.

Provincial Crown counsel has approved charges of obstructing a peace officer, breach of an undertaking and possession of a control substance for Chad Patrick Poitras, 27, following his apprehension at a home in the 2400 block of Oak Street.

Called at about 8 p.m. to a possible assault, police found Poitras hiding in the home's attic and had to be forcibly removed because he refused to come out, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.

Once handcuffed, a small amount of crack cocaine was found on him and a check on police computers found Poitras was under a condition to not be in the presence of a particular person found in the home.

On Oct. 26, Poitras had been released on bail, according to court records, two days after he was arrested on a charge of killing or injuring an animal and is alleged to have participated in the ensuing truck thefts that led to the arrest of Jonathan Kyle Relkey, 22 and Ashley Lynn Sampson, 19 following a pursuit Sunday that ended with one of the trucks in a ditch on Marleau Road.

Following appearances Thursday, Poitras and Relkey remain in custody while Sampson was released on $1,500 bail.

Police scored something of a bonus arrest when they attended the Oak Street home as they also found Skyler Dwayne Brennan, 19.

A warrant had been issued for Brennan's arrest after he failed to appear Tuesday at the Prince George courthouse for a disposition hearing on charges of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance.

Those charges stem from an Oct. 1 incident in which Brennan was allegedly found sleeping in a vehicle where police uncovered small quantities of cocaine and marijuana and parcels stolen from a delivery struck shortly before.

Brennan was arrested without incident, Douglass said.

"Both the residence and the occupants are known to police and believed to be involved in the drug trade," Douglass added. "No assault was found to have been committed."
