When pet lovers unite, it's impawsible to ignore the furry enthusiasm that follows.

The second annual Prince George Pet Fair takes place at the Columbus Community Centre on May 7.

There will be representatives from many animal rescues and shelters, photo opportunities and nail trims by donation for those four-legged friends, with all proceeds going to the shelters and rescues in attendance.

There are information booths including pet stores, vet clinics, specialty dog foods and dog trainers that will provide the answers to many feline or canine questions.

The event was born when organizer Jayna Peters heard yet another report on the radio of animals being dumped somewhere in Prince George.

"It seemed to be a recurring theme," said Peters, who runs Two Bunnies Rescue.

"And I thought 'do people not know where to bring their animals? Why is this happening?' I wanted to make sure the pet community knows what's available to them in the way of rescues, services and businesses in the area."

Peters, having always been involved in craft fairs, thought a pet fair couldn't be that much different to organize and took on the task herself last year.

"And that was the start of it," said Peters, who took five months to organize last year's and a year to organize this year's event, which is bigger with a pet-friendly aspect inside of the venue.

"This year there's going to be booths outdoors - there will be nine or 10 of them - most of the rescues are outdoors," said Peters.

"There'll be a couple of the rescues in the pet-friendly room."

The following rescues and shelters that will be represented are Prince George Equine and Animal Rescue Society, Morfee Mountain Animal Rescue, Two Bunnies Rescue, BC SPCA North Cariboo District, PG Humane Society, Ferrets North, and Sunny Hill Animal Rescue.

Last year's event raised $1,000 and Peters said she hasn't set a goal for this year's event. Tables for the Pet Fair are still available until May 3 for $30 each and an online auction with many items up for grabs is on PGPetFair's Facebook page starting today.
