A Volunteer Prince George board of directors that includes three new directors has been chosen.

Ken Biron, Mike Allan and Camille MacDonald were elected by acclamation to two-year terms during VPG's annual general meeting this week.

Biron is an active local volunteer who has devoted many years to helping those with mobility issues through the Handy Circle Resource Society, Allan, who has accepted the role of secretary, is a retired auto sales specialist and trainer, and MacDonald is a former broadcaster who operates Pop Media, an independent business that specializes in creating video content for social media.

Among returning members, Corey Walker from Autism BC moves into his second term as board chair, Krystal Leason, executive director for Huble Homestead, is vice president, Judy Neiser, CEO for Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, is treasurer and Melissa Lang, from City of Prince George police support services, is a director.

Wendy Pollard remains general manager.

Highlights during the year included the successful Canada 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge that placed Volunteer PG second in B.C. and fifth place in all of Canada, with most close competitors significantly larger in population than Prince George.

Also noted was the quick response to the wildfire situation that erupted early in July. The office, which ran with five paid staff and seven volunteers, registered over 380 volunteers the first day and 2,267 in total. In turn, registered volunteers logged a combined 19,000 hours.

Looking ahead, VPG is seeking public input on how its success with Canada 150 for 150 should be celebrated when a volunteer appreciation event is held this fall. Votes and suggestions are being welcomed through VPG's Facebook page.

Also, VPG is still looking to fill three vacancies on the board of directors. The form can be found at www.volunteerpg.com.
