Nusdeh Yoh elementary will get a new parking lot to pair with the $1.9 million in improvements to its heating system announced by B.C. in May.

The provincial funding didn't cover the pavement so at Tuesday night's meeting, the school board agreed to pitch in $432,000 for the project. The district also put in $25,000 for the boiler and thermal heating system.

District 57 will pull from its local capital reserve for the reconstruction of the lot and the nearby sidewalks.

"The parking lot at the school is inadequate for the current volume of traffic and its condition has deteriorated beyond reasonable repair," the education services committee report said.

Drainage in this area of the school site is also a problem.

"Existing sidewalks should also be replaced to ensure safe access from the parking lot to the school for students, staff, parents and community users of the school."

With no discussion, trustees unanimously voted for the improvement, which is expected to begin in July and be complete by fall.

At its May meeting, the board pulled from the local capital reserve to upgrade a sanitary sewer at Edgewood elementary, leaving almost $900,000 in the fund, enough for the Nusdeh Yoh project.
