A new branch manager has been hired for the B.C. Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' North Cariboo branch.

Jamie Walsh, who has been a staff member at the branch, located on Lansdowne Road in Prince George, since 2006 after five years as a volunteer, will take over the job on Monday, the B.C. SPCA said Friday.

Walsh takes over from Angela McLaren, who resigned March 20 citing complaints of bullying.

McLaren was followed days later by contract fundraiser Andrea Sowers and the branch's eight-member community council.

Along with Walsh's appointment, the BC SPCA said Jodi Boivin, a seven-year staff member, has been named assistant manager.

No mention of the controversy over McLaren's departure was mentioned in the BC SPCA's press release announcing the moves.

It did say the branch's annual city challenge with Kamloops, to see which community can raise the most money for animals in need during the month of May, is coming up in May.

"We encourage all animal lovers in our community to come out to our fundraising events to have fun, help a great cause and to show Kamloops that we have the most supportive animal lovers anywhere in the province," Walsh said in the release.
