Northern Development Initiative Trust grants could help the city get a jump on improvements to civic facilities.

On Monday night, city council approved applications for three grants of up to $30,000 each from the trust's Prince George Regional Development Account.

The money would help replace gym equipment in the aquatic centre (a $45,000 project), replace the load door, stage curtains and flooring in CN Centre (a $43,000 project) and repair/repaint the stucco exterior and replace foyer/front of house flooring at the PG Playhouse (a $43,000 project).

The projects are outside of the city's normal budget process, said community services general manager Rob Whitwham, but will require funding at some point.
