During the municipal election campaign, The Citizen sent out four questions for each of the candidates for mayor and city council to answer about their stand on various civic issues.

Earlier this month, city hall reporter Charelle Evelyn sent out a different sort of questionnaire to the new mayor and council, hoping to learn more about their personal interests and background. All but Coun. Susan Scott took part.

To find out which city councillor's favourite album is AC/DC's Back In Black and which councillor would have KFC as his last meal before his death sentence, keep reading.

Former Citizen of the Year Murry Krause has just begun his 16th year in local government, but he started out a lovable rule-breaker.

1. Book currently on your night stand (or open on your e-reader)?

The World Religions by Huston Smith, Adult Onset by Ann-Marie MacDonald, and several recent editions of The Walrus magazine. I always like to have several projects on the go.

2. Three things you'd take with you if you were marooned on an island?

Optimism, food seeds and beer.

3. Go-to song to lift your spirits?

Currently El Camino by Amos Lee. That can change over time.

4. Favourite movie/TV show?

Cabaret. A great musical and great acting set in a very important time in our history.

5. What is your earliest memory?

The early 1950s: my single mother, my sister Shannon and I lived in a small apartment on Second Avenue in Prince George. My mother was a waitress at the National Hotel Restaurant. Carmen’s brothel was right next door. Our mother told us not to go next door; we did! The women who lived there treated us like gold. In my early 20s I managed a Youth Hostel in the same building.

6. Least favourite word?

I know you wouldn’t print it (and that’s a good thing).

7. Ideal vacation spot?

Wells, B.C., for so many reasons.

8. Favourite band/musician and/or favourite album?

Joni Mitchell. All of her albums from the time she came on the scene and as she evolved as an artist on the Canadian and then international scene. Favourites are probably Blue and Turbulent Indigo.

9. If you were on death row, what would you choose for your last meal?

What’s the point? Something much more important is about to happen.

10. What quote would you want printed with your obituary?

“You are what you do, not what you say” and/or “Ambition is no substitute for substance.”

11. What's your favourite thing to do to unwind?

Summer: Gardening. Winter: Reading great Canadian literature; easily found in Governor General or Giller Prize nominees.

12. What's your favourite thing to do in Prince George?

Being outdoors, anytime of the year. Spending time with friends and family.

13. What would friends say is your most annoying habit?

My friends are obviously too kind, they haven’t highlighted anything in particular. They have complained that I am too busy.

14. If you could have dinner with any three people (living or dead), who would they be?

Jack Layton, Iona Campagnolo, and Emily Carr, or my three sons.

15. What was your first car?

I can’t remember. I’ve never been much into cars.

16. Which team do you root for during the FIFA World Cup?

I appreciate its value, but one of the things I don’t follow.

17. Best/worst subject in school?

Best: Social Studies. Worst: Math

18. Who was your biggest influence as a child?

My maternal grandmother, Minnie Winsor

19. What's the best gift you've ever received?

My three sons: Shane, Andrew and Ben.

20. What's the most daring thing you've ever done?

Run for city council (just kidding), or going up in a hot air balloon at dawn over the Valley of Kings and Queens in Egypt. I don’t know how daring either of those are, but couldn’t think of anything else at this moment.
