Crown counsel has approved a charge of second-degree murder against a Tachie woman.

Annie Jean Anatole faces the count in relation to a stabbing death Sunday of a 31-year-old resident of the reserve 65 kilometres west of Fort St. James.

Anatole remains in custody on a detention order.

RCMP were called to the reserve, part of the Tl'azt'en Nation, shortly after 2 a.m.

The victim, who was transported to hospital in Fort St. James by family members, was pronounced dead upon arrival. The name of the victim has not been released.

Court records show Anatole has a criminal record consisting mostly of petty offences, but also one conviction for assault from an April 2014 incident. She was sentenced to six months probation with a suspended sentence for that offence.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the Fort St James RCMP at 250-996-8269.
