A man remains in custody and faces charges following an alleged failed attempt to flee police on Saturday morning.

Manjeet Singh Bhatti, 41, has been charged with one count each of fleeing police and willfully resisting a peace officer.

He also faces one count of breach of probation and four counts of breaching an undertaking or recognizance.

Prince George RCMP said the trouble began at about 8:30 a.m. when an RCMP member on patrol along Highway 97 near Northwood Pulpmill Road came across a car with license plates that did not match the vehicle they were on. When the member tried to pull the vehicle over, it took off.

The member did not pursue but minutes later RCMP received a report that the car had just crashed on Northwood Pulpmill Road near Noranda Road and the lone driver had run off into the woods.

With the help of a service dog and handler, the 41-year-old suspect was apprehended after he was located hiding in a marshy area some distance away from where the crash.
