Emmersun Taylor is a 19-year-old nursing student who has passed the preliminary rounds of cuts and is one of the six representing BC at the Miss Canada-Universe pageant.

In aid of her Miss Universe Canada bid, and to draw national attention to a global medical crisis that strikes hardest in developing nations, Emmersun Taylor is holding a Friday night fundraiser.

The place is The Black Clover and the cause is Operation Smile, the official charitable cause of the Miss Universe Canada organization.

"I am so excited that I get to work for this charity," said Taylor, a Prince George nursing student competing as northern B.C.'s representative in the annual international spokesmodel competition. "Operation Smile is a program for children/babies in third world countries who are born with cleft lip/palate. Unfortunately with this birth defect, a baby or child will be unable to eat and drink properly, breath properly, swallow, and if the child has had this condition through their first few stages of life, their first teeth may not grow properly and their hearing will be effected as well. These children need us. Without these donations, they are unable to get the proper surgery and medical care they require."

Taylor will host the Black Clover fundraiser event from 8:30-11 p.m. It is a casual evening of snacks, beverages and games with the proceeds going to Operation Smile. Admission is $20, plus other opportunities that night to contribute other dollars with 100 per cent of those funds directed to the charity.

"Thank you, and I hope to see many familiar faces there," said Taylor. "Let's gets these children the smiles they deserve to live a long happy life."
