Mewes is the news

Actor coming to Northern FanCon

The talkative half of Jay and Silent Bob should have plenty to say when he comes to Prince George.

Jason Mewes, perennial Kevin Smith sidekick, has been added to this spring's Northern FanCon lineup.

Since making his silver screen debut in 1994 in Clerks as the hilariously inappropriate drug dealer Jay, the actor, director and producer has appeared in most of Smith's films including Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks 2.

The New Jersey native has also made appearances in other indie movies, TV shows such as Pauly Shore is Dead, Gone Baby Gone, Silent But Deadly, Vigilante Diaries and Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. Mewes has also performed voiceover work for the animated Clerks series and the Scarface videogame.

Over the years, Mewes has been incredibly forthcoming about his history with substance abuse, even going so far as to start an ever-popular weekly podcast in 2010 with long-time friend Smith, Jay and Silent Bob Get Old, to help keep him on the sober path.

"Now at least once a week I'm somewhere and someone asks how many days clean I'm at. I have to be accountable to people who listen to the podcast," Mewes told Westword, a Denver, Colo., paper in 2013.

Mewes can next be seen in the upcoming series What Would Trejo Do, Shooting Clerks, Run for Roxanne and Halloweed as well as Mallbrats and Clerks 3.

Also new to the 2016 FanCon lineup is Candice Patton, the Texas-raised beauty who now graces the small screen as Iris West on CW's The Flash. Patton's screen credits also The Game, Con Man, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy and Entourage and Young and the Restless.

Patton and Mewes join an exciting FanCon guestlist that already includes LeVar Burton (Roots, Star Trek, Reading Rainbow), Brett Dalton (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Kris Holden-Reid (Lost Girl, The Tudors), Rachel Skarsten (Birds of Prey, Lost Girl, Reign) and Paul Amos (Murdoch Mysteries, Lost Girl, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate).

Tickets for Northern FanCon, running May 13-15 at CN Centre, are currently on sale through Ticketmaster outlets. For more information, and to keep up to date on FanCon announcements, visit fancon.ca and 'like' Northern FanCon's Facebook page.
