Alexander McKinnon has been elected Chief of the Nak'azdli Whut'en First Nation.

McKinnon is a former band councillor and longtime resident of Nak'azdli, located next to Fort St. James.

"I was named for my grandfather - the late Chief Alexander Charles McKinnon - and am proud to follow in his footsteps," he said in a news release.

McKinnon's campaign platform promised transparent governance and a zero-tolerance policy on lateral violence. His administration also promises to strengthen Nak'azdli's relationships with neighboring communities.

"By building on these relationships, we can work together to face the challenges we all face."
