A 95-year old local business is the latest to be recognized for its place in Prince George history.

McInnis Lighting is the 2015 recipient of the Prince George Heritage Commission's Heritage Places Award.

The award is presented annually to mark "significant places in the history, growth and identity of Prince George."

Located on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Quebec Street, McInnis Lighting is the city's fourth-oldest continuously run business. It was founded by John McInnis, for whom John McInnis Junior secondary school was named.

The store remains a family-owned business, managed from 1956 to 1995 by son-in-law Percy Williams and currently under the management of the founder's grandson Paul Williams and his wife Joan.

The award will be presented during tonight's 100th anniversary Civic Appreciation dinner at the Civic Centre.

Previous recipients of the Heritage Places award include Sacred Heart Cathedral, the Crescents neighbourhood, Sacred Heart school, Prince George Agricultural and Historical Association (which runs the B.C. Northern Exhibition), Munro/Moffat House, Knox United Church and R.J. Blackburn House.
