A Prince George man is suing two local businesses over injuries he allegedly suffered while riding a mechanical bull.

In a notice of claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court in Prince George, Scott Painter is alleging he suffered an "avulsion" to his right thumb when it became caught in the rope, as well as bruises, contusions and abrasions.

"The mechanical bull was not in a condition that was safe for use," Painter's lawyer says in a statement of claim. "More specifically, the bull rope was not adjusted properly and no instructions were given on the use of the mechanical bull."

An avulsion is often associated with pulling a finger while trying to remove a ring.

The injury occurred during a March 30, 2014 event put on by L.A. Promotions and Tent Rentals at its Family Fun Centre. The property's owner, 651932 BC Ltd., is also named in the lawsuit.

Painter, an electrician, continues to suffer from the injury and has required surgery, according to the statement of claim which was filed on Nov. 26. He's suing for past and future loss of income and future earning capacity among other types of damage.

The defendants have not yet filed a response and the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
