A 21-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning when he was ejected from a pickup truck, which rolled in a single vehicle accident on Highway 97 near Austin Road.

Prince George RCMP said the 22-year-old male driver of the southbound, full-sized pickup lost control of the vehicle and it flipped in the northbound ditch between Handlen Road and Austin Road, ejecting all four passengers, none of whom were wearing seatbelts. The driver was belted in.

The 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old female was taken to UHNBC with serious but non life-threatening injuries. A 20-year-old male and a 19-year-old female were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The accident was reported to police at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday. The highway was closed for several hours while a collision reconstructionist gathered evidence. Alcohol is believed to be involved in what is now a criminal investigation.

- This story originally stated two 19-year-old females were taken to hospital with minor injuries. RCMP had incorrectly identifed one of the two.
