A Prince George man has been sentenced to 53 days in jail for fleeing police in a stolen pickup truck.

William Nicolas Rahkola, 22, must also serve one year probation after completing his time in jail under the terms of a sentence issued Thursday in Prince George provincial court.

Rahkola was arrested during the evening of July 16 after an RCMP officer attempted to pull over a vehicle travelling south on Foothills Boulevard.

The driver of the green Ford F-150 refused to stop. Officers did not pursue the truck, due to safety concerns, but confirmed it had been stolen from Vernon on four days before.

About 15 minutes later, officers located and arrested two people believed to be involved with the stolen truck near Westwood Drive and Ferry Avenue. The truck was also recovered.

Rahkola was sentenced on one count each of flight from peace officer and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

He had been released on a recognizance on the same day as his arrest but on Aug. 1, he was taken back into custody where he has remained, after he was arrested on charges of causing a disturbance.

For that incident, Rahkola was ordered to pay $200 in victim surcharges. He was also sentenced to one year probation with a suspended sentence for mischief, $5,000 or under, from a May 28 incident.

Rebecca Susanne Rahkola, 26, was also apprehended and continues to face charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and failure to comply with probation. She's remained in custody since the arrest.
