A house fire in the Hart Highway area of the city late Saturday afternoon left a man with significant burns.

Fifteen Prince George Fire Rescue firefighters from three halls responded to the call at about 5:10 p.m. and were sent to the home in the 5400 block of Lehman Street. By that time, according to Assistant Chief Greg Wilkins, extensive flames and thick black smoke were coming from the attached garage and roof area of the house.

The injured man, the lone occupant of the building when the fire started, met the fire crews as they arrived and was transported by ambulance to UHNBC.

The fire was extinguished quickly by fire crews but the home was left with extensive damage.

The cause of the fire, which is believed to have started in the garage area, has not been released.
