A 30-year-old Prince George man was gunned down late Wednesday night in a drug-related murder.

His body was found in the driveway of a 3600-block Forest Avenue, near Ospika Boulevard, said Prince George RCMP, who were called to the scene at 11:20 p.m. He suffered at least one gunshot wound.

"Although this investigation is in the early stages, police are confident that this was a targeted attack with links to the drug trade," RCMP said. "The victim was known to police."

The victim's name was not released. Investigators are asking anyone with private or commercial exterior video surveillance of the area, to contact the Prince George RCMP detachment.

The detachment's major crime section is leading the investigation.

It's been 10 months since there has been a homicide in the city. In late August 2015, Ian Matthew Begg was found dead at end of Haldi Lake Road.

However, there has been drug-related violence in the last few months, most recently a gunfight in a 700-block Freeman Street home last Friday evening. No one was injured but a stray bullet went through a neighbour's window narrowly missing two children and their parents.

At the time, police said several people linked to that shooting were still at large and further violence could not be ruled out.

One man, Darius Trey Veld, 25, has been arrested in connection with that incident and he remains in custody on charges of unlawfully discharging a firearm, careless use of a firearm and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

And Jamie Wade Fatum, 24, remains in custody facing a charge of attempted murder from an April 29 shooting in the parking lot between apartment buildings at 17th Avenue and Tamarack.

On Saturday, three people police say are responsible for trafficking cocaine at the kilo-size level were arrested after search warrants were executed in Prince George, Chilliwack and Richmond. The three have not yet been charged and their names have not yet been released.

Officials have not said if the latest homicide is related to any of those incidents.
