Calling for the Ancient Forest to be designated as a protected area, there is a public letter that already has more than 550 online signatures in support, including one from environmental activist David Suzuki.

Circulated by Northern Wetbelt Working Group, a Prince George community advocacy group, the letter refers to reports by scientists, a forester, and organizations stating that "people in our community also want a much broader conservation vision for the inland temperate rainforest."

In 2008 a BC Forest Practices Board report recommended putting a stop to harvesting and instead proposed developing a conservation strategy.

The group is looking for more people to support the letter with signatures by this weekend. To do so, go online to goo.gl/6UpY9m.
