Job Chats for teens with Prince George professionals is coming to the downtown library this Saturday afternoon.

It can take years for someone to pick the right career path, but the library is making it a little easier on teens through its second annual Job Chats.

Today curious youth can go right to the source and meet a wide variety of Prince George professionals at an informal event.

The idea is they can "sign out" a person based on what piques their interest - like a human library.

It gives local students a chance to talk one-on-one with workers they might not otherwise get a chance to, said children's librarian Heather Gloster.

"My goal is for teens to learn more about different career options that are available to them in Prince George," said Gloster by email.

"I want high schoolers to start thinking about what courses they need to take now that will help them get into the post-secondary program that will lead them to the career of their choice."

This year features more than 20 jobs, from a horticulturalist to politician, a radiation therapist to veterinarian and lawyer to foresters. The creative pursuits are also represented, with a photographer, author, graphic designer, radio broadcaster and reporters from The Citizen and CKPG.

Some will be familiar faces for those following city news, including Coun. Jillian Merrick, CKPG's Rich Abney and photographer Philomena Hughes.

The free event runs at the downtown branch today from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Keith Gordon Room.
