A Prince George man was sentenced Monday to 30 days in jail and two years probation for exposing his genitals via social media to three teenage girls.

Quinnton Anthony Kent, 20, had sent the images to two girls who were playing on a high school basketball team he was coaching on a voluntary basis and to a friend of one of those players.

He was arrested in January 2016 after the school's vice principal notified Prince George RCMP.

Through a subsequent investigation, police learned that beginning in September 2015 he had begun sending increasingly provocative images through Snapchat.

All three stopped communicating with him but they were reluctant to tell anyone after Kent benched one of the players and threatened to kick another off the team. That he had abused a position of trust and authority was listed as an aggravating factor.

Kent received the minimum sentence available. He has no previous criminal record, pleaded guilty to the offence and took full responsibility for his actions both when he spoke to a probation officer and when he spoke in court.

"I apologize," Kent told provincial court judge Randall Callan. "I'm not proud of my actions."

Conditions of Kent's probation include not to be within 50 metres of any high school in the city, as well as any other place where youth 16 years old and younger tend to congregate.

He must also abstain from alcohol, is prohibited for possessing any pornography and and his name will be on the national sex offender registry for 10 years. Kent also consented to full-time attendance in a counselling program for sexual offenders.
