A coroner's inquest will be held in Quesnel for a man who died after he fell out of the back of an ambulance.

Ebony Aaron Wood, 36, died on Nov. 7, 2016, two days after the incident, the B.C. Coroners Service said in a statement issued Friday.

He had been involved in a motor vehicle incident and reportedly walked a short distance from the scene to ask someone to call 911.

RCMP attended the scene and Wood was subsequently placed in the back of the police cruiser when he told an officer he was experiencing chest and shoulder pain. An ambulance was subsequently called to take Wood to hospital.

The inquest will begin Nov. 14 at the Quesnel courthouse.

Inquests are mandatory whenever a person dies while in police custody.

Coroner Donita Kuzma and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.

The B.C. Coroners Service is not a fault-finding agency.
