An area man has been sentenced to two years less a day of house arrest followed by two years probation for four firearms-related counts related to a seizure from a Mud River home.

Michael Douglas Platt, 36, was issued the term Monday at the Prince George courthouse after pleading guilty to the counts and saving the courts the time and cost of a 10-day trial in the process.

The outcome is in relation to a March 2015 raid on a 15000-block Upper Mud River property after RCMP received tips from three separate sources that co-accused Justin Edward Pawluck was storing firearms and dealing illicit drugs at the property.

Police uncovered firearms, ammunition, other weapons and stashes of drugs around the property. Platt was identified as the property's primary occupant and he was linked to a Browning 30-06 rifle found underneath his bed and an SKS semi-automatic rifle found in the closet, both unlocked and improperly stored.

Platt also did not possess a firearms licence or registration certificate with respect to either gun.

Police also uncovered 13.95 grams of methamphetamine in the home. Platt also pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance for which he was given a concurrent term of 30 days house arrest.

Platt, who was arrested and charged nearly a year afterwards, will be subject to a curfew during the first two years, but will still be able to go to work during the term. If he does not breach his curfew during his house arrest, formally known as a conditional sentence order, it can be waived during his probation.

Cases against Pawluck, as well as Dylon Sadillo McLemore and Leila Angel Lorraine Brousseau, who were arrested at the scene, on the matter remain before the court.
