With less than 20 people at Aleza Lake it might surprise some to know there is a thriving library in its midst.
Elva Noakes provides a cozy library in a small cabin located in the heart of Aleza Lake, located about 50 kilometres northeast of Prince George along the railroad.
The cabin comes complete with a wood stove, a reading area with sofas, a television for videos and coffee and goodies by donation.
The library is dedicated to Elva's mother Helen Noakes, mother of nine, who loved books for the escape they provided her from the poverty that surrounded her.
At first books were not easy to come by and each was considered a treasure. Helen, who passed away in 1984, was often seen standing at the stove stirring a pot of soup with one hand, a book in the other.
The library is open to the public.
The cozy cabin library is a testament to how one person can make a difference.
