A man known to the police and court faces a charge after police said they uncovered $65,000 worth of heavy equipment stolen from evacuated properties in the Williams Lake area.

The items were found on a remote property in the Beaver Creek area northeast of the community and Shane Michael Brady, 38, of Big Lake, has been charged with a count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, according to police.

The arrest and recovery was a result of an investigation by the B.C. Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit with help from Burnaby RCMP, BC Conservation Services and North District RCMP's federal and serious organized crime unit.

Brady has conviction for property-related offences and police said they acted on a tip that a prolific offender was active within the wildfire evacuation zone.

Brady remains in custody pending an appearance in court on Thursday.

Also, two Quesnel men each face one count each of possession of a break-in instrument and possession of a controlled substance after RCMP pulled over a suspicious vehicle Friday near Garner Road.

Steven Gerald Schuk, 48, and Brent Marke Zaumseil, 42, remained in custody as of Monday.
