A sizzling lineup of live entertainment hit downtown Prince George for Canada's 150th celebration.

The Canada 150 Heatwave, a partnership with the the city and the Prince George Folkfest Society, began with a free eight-day concert series beginning July 1 with the French Connection, Andino Suns and Delhi 2 Dublin taking to the stage to start Canada's sesquicentennial celebration.

"Let's say thanks to the land we are occupying. We are so blessed," said the band's lead singer Sanjay Seran.

"Let's bring a place of decolonization, reconciliation and healing," he added as a huge crowd cheered on.

"I am enjoying this. They are singing Punjabi songs and all of these people love it," said CNC student Navdeep Singh.

Delhi 2 Dublin continue to reflect the cultural diversity around the world as they continue to challenge the definition of urban music offering a cross section of Bhangra, Celtic, dub, reggae and electronica.

"They have such amazing energy," said Sue Judge, artistic director for Heatwave and Coldsnap.

"They are spectacular musicians that make people feel good. They are very inspirational."

Mayor Lyn Hall continues to consider Summer 2017 a 'summer of celebration'.

"The Heatwave concerts are an extension of the Canada Games that brings the community together," Hall said.

"What better way than to celebrate here, for Canada's 150th. The multicultural aspect reflects what Prince George and Canada is all about."

The event through July 8 will continue to feature local, regional and nationally acclaimed artists and musicians at Canada Games Plaza for lunchtime and evening concerts.
