The 11th annual Healthier You Expo, presented by the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society, MLA Shirley Bond and The Prince George Citizen, goes Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Gathering Place at the College of New Caledonia.

During this free event, there will be guest speakers, a full schedule of demonstrations, dozens of information booths and no-cost flu shots.

Guests can tour the Northern Health Connections Bus and visit the College of New Caledonia booth so a second-year nursing student can check vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and respiration.

"Guest speakers and the booths will provide information about living a healthy lifestyle," Cheryl Stewart, advertising director at The Prince George Citizen, said. "Part of the purpose of the Healthier You Expo is to showcase what type of career options are available to those interested in the healthcare industry. It's not just about working in a hospital in Prince George. There's lots of opportunities on offer when you have this skill set."

Guest speakers include Chef Ron Christian, of the College of New Caledonia culinary arts program, who will talk about the benefits of unique foods and how they could improve your health when incorporated into your daily diet, Stewart said.

Crystal Lawrence from the College of New Caledonia nursing program will speak about her experience of taking a dozen second-year nursing students to a nursing field school in India.

Tasha Wall, a health coach, will talk about how people can become empowered and transformed.

Ivana Minovec, owner of MindBodySoul Wellness, will focus her talk on how self-care is of the utmost importance.

Demonstrations include belly dancing, yoga, Tai Chi and the latest fitness craze Pound.

Information booths include representatives from Northern Lights Denture, the local branch of the Kidney Foundation, the Lung Association, the Prince George Hospice Society, and the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

There will be a Y Moves kids recreation area and door prizes include a Vitamix blender from the local Canadian Tire store, restaurant gift certificates and Spruce King hockey tickets, along with three-month family memberships to the YMCA of Northern B.C.

First 500 guests into the expo will receive a free reusable bag from Canadian Tire.

"We invite everyone to attend this free expo, get a free flu shot and get information about living a healthier lifestyle," Stewart said.
