A trio of health-authority related appointments involving northern British Columbians was announced Friday.

Colleen Nyce will remain chair of the Northern Health board of directors while Prince George city councillor and long-time United Steelworkers Local 1-424 president Frank Everitt was named to the board, replacing former Prince George-Mackenzie MLA and Liberal cabinet minister Pat Bell.

Nyce has been interim chair since Charles Jago's term ended June 30.

As well, Sherry Ogasawara, an NDP candidate in the 2013 provincial election, was named to the Provincial Health Services Authority board of directors. Ogasawara ran unsuccessfully against Shirley Bond in Prince George-Valemount in 2013.

Health Minister Adrian Dix announced the appointments Friday.

Nyce recently retired as corporate affairs and community relations manager at Rio Tinto Alcan, where she worked for 14 years. Prior to that, Nyce was a personal investment manager at Scotiabank.

Nyce was president of the 2004 Northern BC Winter Games and is involved with the Terrace Figure Skating Club and the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce. She holds a bachelor of arts in political science and public administration from the University of Windsor.

Everitt's credentials include being a community member on the city's select committee on homelessness and affordable housing, board member and vice-chair of Employment Action, board member and vice-chair on the College of New Caledonia, president of Prince George and District Labour Council, board member of Spruce Credit Union, board member of the Canadian Institute of the Blind and member on the Forestry Roundtable. He also volunteered for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

Ogasawara is a population health dietician, the lead on internal food policy with Northern Health and owner operator of SO Fit Company in Prince George.

Gary Pooni, an urban planner based in Vancouver, was also named to the Provincial Health Services Authority board.

Within the B.C.'s health authority system, the PHSA is responsible for coordinating the province's network of specialized health-care services.

Ogasawara and Pooni replaced former Liberal MLA Ida Chong and former Abbotsford mayor George Peary.
