Time has run out for The Hearts and Hands for Homes Society, which is no longer operating The Salvage Store.

On Thursday, Habitat for Humanity Canada assumed management of the Queensway store and it will be temporarily closed to customers and donors "to accommodate an operational reorganization," said an email from Dave Trafford, Habitat for Humanity's interim communications director.

Habitat for Humanity Canada intends to reopen the store on Sept. 25 under its ReStore banner.

Hearts and Hands for Homes Society is the former Prince George branch of Habitat Canada. It was disaffiliated from the national organization in 2013 and a July B.C. Supreme Court decision ordered Hearts and Hands to hand its assets over to the national body. This included several properties and mortgages as well as the store specializing in secondhand furniture and salvaged building materials.

The transfer still had to be made, despite Hearts and Hands filing an appeal of the decision.

No date has been set for the appeal to be heard and Heart and Hands for Homes is currently without legal representation.

In an August interview with The Citizen, executive director Jo-Anne Pickering said Hearts and Hands for Homes Society has paid legal fees in the past out of the store.
