Some of the coolest grandmas in Prince George are hosting a Spring Into Fashion show Thursday, April 6 at the Columbus Community Centre.

These grannies do flash mobs around town on World AIDS Day, put on golf tournaments, hold an immensely popular sing-along, make beaded bracelets and bags to sell, host a new take on a garage sale called a Bring and Buy, and even show films in town to encourage global community thinking towards African grandmothers who have lost their children to AIDS who are now raising their grandchildren.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign is a national effort that's raised more than $24 million to help those African grandmothers that not only raise their own grandchildren but communities of children because there's nobody left to do it.

The local grandmothers got started in November 2015 and have a strong membership of 70.

All funds raised during these many local events support those grandmas across the world to help them succeed in their goal of raising a well educated, healthy, happy next generation.

The fashion show will feature the latest from Butterfly Boutique, a locally owned clothing store,

During the evening, guests can enjoy finger foods like meat and cheese trays, veggies and dip, tea, coffee and punch. Wine will be available for a fee and there will be a dessert auction where tables of 10 will bid on desserts donated by local restaurants.

"All our events go so well," said Louise Ewen, a founding member of Grandmothers to Grandmothers Prince George. "There's so much enthusiasm and excitement that blows through everyone and people are very supportive of other's ideas and then we run with it."

Guests are encouraged to wear an Easter bonnet for fun and prizes. Quesnel's Gold Pan Grannies will join in the celebration and offer up their handmade fascinators fit for royalty while the local grandmas will have their bracelets and bags on sale.

Tickets are $25 for Spring Into Fashion and are available at Butterfly Boutique, 421 Dominion St., and all members of the group have tickets to sell, too.
