With the help of an "official board cutting," a grand opening was held Thursday for the new Lowe's home improvement store at Pine Centre Mall.

Mayor Lyn Hall and MLAs Shirley Bond and Mike Morris were among those who participated in the event. Lowe's also donated $10,000 to the College of New Caledonia's school of technologies and trades.

Located in what was once the home to Zeller's and the short-lived Target, the outlet covers 101,000 square feet of retail sales space and is accompanied by a 7,500-square-foot garden centre.

Customers can find about 40,000 products in-store. They include an extensive assortment of top-line appliances, a year-round selection of barbecues, a wide range of building materials and tools, seasonal and landscaping supplies, a variety of lawn tractors, mowers and other power outdoor equipment and an extensive assortment of stylish home and outdoor decor, patio furnishings, fire pits and home organization products.

More than $26 million was spent on the location - the amount covering the real estate transaction, site development and building construction, according to Lowe's.

Between 120 and 140 people will work there, not including an additional 30-40 seasonal positions and over 11,000 hours have been invested in employee training.
