Giant slip and slide closes University Way

When a 1,000 foot slip and slide takes over a stretch of a city, you can be sure it'll cause a few detours. On Saturday University Way will be open for some slippery fun and closed to motorists between Foothills Blvd and Tyner Blvd all day.

A 1,000 metre long slip and slide is coming to Prince George Saturday

When a 1,000 foot slip and slide takes over a stretch of a city, you can be sure it'll cause a few detours.

On Saturday University Way will be open for some slippery fun and closed to motorists between Foothills Blvd and Tyner Blvd all day.

Dubbed the "wildest and wettest" summer event, Fun City Sliders and the YMCA of Northern BC have organized the fundraiser with a goal of raising more than $25,000.

That will go to the Strong Kids campaign for families so they can access YMCA programs for memberships, Camp Kanannaq, the Aurora Leadership Program and Neighbourhood Scholars. One in five children need financial assistance to participate at the YMCA, the organization said.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the road is closed to drivers from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The University of Northern B.C. has offered free parking, accessed from Tyner Way.

Buses coming to and from UNBC will be using alternate routes. The transit detour route is available below.
