Charges have been approved against a Prince George man who was arrested Wednesday within minutes of RCMP being called to the hold up of a gas station.

Kaylen Justice Gurney, 20, faces one count each of robbery, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possessing weapon for dangerous purpose, and breach of undertaking.

The charges were approved a day after Prince George RCMP general duty members as well as a dog and handler were called to the scene in the 1800-block of 20th Avenue at about 1:30 p.m.

Aided by a description provided to the police, RCMP arrested Gurney near the corner of 20th Avenue and Redwood Street, about two blocks away - and all within four minutes, police said in a press release.

The cash was immediately recovered and, with the help of the dog, a weapon was recovered nearby, RCMP said.

Court records indicate that on the day of his arrest, Gurney had been scheduled to make a first appearance in court on one count of theft $5,000 or under and two counts of possessing weapon for dangerous purpose from an alleged July 29 incident and a warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to show.

Gurney remained in custody as of Thursday.
