"Great progress" is being made on four-laning a section of Highway 97 south of Prince George, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Work on the rip rap along the Fraser River has been completed and the majority of the slope stabilization works have been installed for the 25-kilometre stretch from Stone Creek to Williams Road, a ministry spokesperson said in an email.

"The contractor anticipates a majority of construction on this $45-million project to be completed this fall. The next phase in construction will see the completion of the southbound lanes adjacent to the river and the start of road and drainage work on the existing northbound lanes.

"The ministry appreciates the patience of all drivers while this important work to improve safety and capacity continues."

Work began in summer 2015.
