Fire in vacant apartment building extinguished

Prince George Fire Rescue quickly extinguished Tuesday night a fire that broke out in a vacant apartment building in the 1000 block of Third Avenue. Called to the scene shortly before 9 p.m.

At 8:52 pm Prince George Fire Rescue responded to the 1000 block of Third Ave. for a reported structure fire. Firefighters found flames coming from a basement stairwell located at the rear of the building. A quick attack of the fire isolated the incident to the rear entrance of the vacant apartment building. A search was completed and found no occupants inside the building.Damages is estimated around 20,000.00.

Prince George Fire Rescue quickly extinguished Tuesday night a fire that broke out in a vacant apartment building in the 1000 block of Third Avenue.

Called to the scene shortly before 9 p.m., twelve firefighters from three halls found flames coming from a basement stairwell located at the rear of the building.

A "quick attack" isolated the fire to the building's rear entrance, PGFR assistant chief Denis Poulin said in a release. No occupants were found inside the building.

Damage is estimated at $20,000 and the cause of the fire was deemed suspicious.
