RCMP arrested a father and son after responding midday Wednesday to a call of a break, enter and theft at a Girl Guides summer camp southeast of Prince George.

Told two suspects had fled in an SUV and were armed with a handgun, several officers converged on the scene on a forest service road about 75 kilometres outside the city.

RCMP found a vehicle matching the description and, when the driver initially refused to stop, police blocked the road. The two, age 42 and 18 were taken into custody without further incident.

"A black pellet handgun and a pellet rifle were located in the vehicle along with other evidence of the break and enter, but no stolen items," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.

"After several hours searching the many kilometres of roads in the area, a police dog service team located approximately $8,000 worth of stolen tools, generators and sporting equipment including a canoe.

"In the process, officers located an abandoned trailer that was believed to have been stolen, and tracked it back to a cabin that had also been broken into."

Both suspects were taken back into Prince George and were held overnight for an appearance before a justice of the peace on Thursday. There names were not released Thursday morning and charges had not yet been approved.
